CHARLES STRONG: Paintings from the Sixties
Charles Strong’s dark and muscular abstract paintings from the 1960s will be exhibited at the Encore Gallery in the Taos Community Auditorium from October 30 through December 15.
Charles Strong is a widely-acclaimed member of the San Francisco School of Abstract Expressionists and was an art teacher at the College of Notre Dame for 29 years and a resident of Taos since 1991. His early work was last shown in Taos at the Harwood Museum in 1999.
These are my paintings from a different era from 1960 to 65 and part of the San Francisco School of Abstract Expressionists. I like the new Encore Gallery space and the fact that it is a public space and I wanted to show these paintings again locally for the young artist in town and the Taos Community. -- Charles Strong
A deeply intuitive artist, Strong combines spontaneity with conceptual depth, relying on the paint, the interweaving areas of color, form, and texture to deliver his oration, his sermon, his song.
Please join us for the opening Reception, Friday, November 6, 5:00 – 7:00 pm in the Encore Gallery of the Taos Community Auditorium.
