TCA Receives National Endowment for the Humanities Cares Grant

Taos, NM – June 30, 2019. Taos Center for the Arts (TCA) has received a National Endowment for the Humanities CARES grant. For the highly competitive NEH Cares grant category, the National Endowment for the Humanities received more than 2,300 eligible applications from cultural organizations requesting more than $370 million in funding for projects between June and December 2020. Approximately 14 percent of the applicants were funded.

TCA’s grant project, “TCA Conversations: Tuning into Humanities,” focuses on TCA’s ongoing shift to virtual programming to support its audiences during the pandemic. This project will entail critical conversations both online and on the radio about art history, art theory, and filmmaking. The project builds on TCA’s radio hour at KNCE 93.5 FM as well as the existing TCA Film Fans. It extends the depth and focus of both into the humanities – expanding conversations about film, art, and history – and providing accessible content to Taos.

Colette LaBouff, Executive Director of TCA, says “It’s an extraordinary boost for TCA to receive this very competitive grant from NEH and it’s a huge encouragement to move forward during a time when much of the income on which TCA depends has been extremely reduced due to pandemic. TCA looks to the future with this opportunity: to make use of online platforms and accessible radio to deliver relevant humanities programming related to the arts for Taos.”
