TCA Annual Quick Draw and Art Auction
The atmosphere is enchanting throughout the historic courtyards, color and brushes flurry about, chisels tap to a different beat, glass glows beneath a flame with artistic finesse….welcome to Quick Draw! The Eighth Annual TCA Quick Draw is taking place on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Taos Center for the Arts (TCA). Opening free to the public at high noon, Quick Draw is an exciting opportunity to watch over 40 artists as they each create a special work which will be auctioned live at 4pm. In addition to making a work for the auction, each artist will display previously completed artworks to enable you to see the final result of their process and to make it possible to purchase your favorite works of your favorite artists throughout the day.
While Quick Draw features painters working in various paint media in many styles from traditional to contemporary, Quick Draw is not just about drawing and painting; sculptors, printmakers, glass, and metal artists will also be creating on view. To witness first-hand the artistic processes and techniques of a large array of artists in one, beautiful setting is indeed rare. Whether you attend to quietly observe or have a plethora of questions (yes, you can visit with the artists as they work), interacting directly with the artists is the allure of this charismatic annual event. And did we mention….Quick Draw is loads of fun for the whole family!
The event, which is traveled each year by hundreds of locals and tourists alike, is framed by a back-drop of live music from outstanding Taos talents including Grupo De Sangre de Cristo, Rick Destefano and Friends, and Kim Trieber Thompson, Chipper Thompson, and Mark Dudrow. The historic courtyards of the Taos Center for the Arts are never so alive and full of energy than at Quick Draw. While strolling and listening to the music under clear September skies, there is ample opportunity to pick up your bidding paddle and be ready for the culmination of the day’s activities, the live art auction.
At three in the afternoon, bidders will gather in the TCA Encore Gallery to preview and compete for the freshly created works from Quick Draw artists. The auction not only provides a great opportunity for some lucky acquisitions of fine art, it’s also one of the main annual fundraising events held to benefit the Taos Center for the Arts. This 57-year old organization continues to bring cultural programming and enriching events to our community in the media, performing and visual arts. Currently, the TCA supports visual arts through managing and maintaining two community access galleries (The Stables Gallery and the newly opened Encore Gallery) which are scheduled year-round for art exhibitions and workshops, presenting the “Meet the Artist” educational series and the annual Quick Draw. The TCA works further with artists and museums, providing collaborative events and support programs.
Quick Draw features the best in local and regional artists such as Ed Sandoval, Thom Wheeler, George Chacon, Valerie Graves, Alyce Frank, Pat Woodall, Shelbee Mares, Ed Heffernan. Soooooo make a date, Sunday, September 27, to spend a brilliant afternoon with fine art, colorful people, and beautiful music while supporting one of the oldest non-profit organizations in New Mexico. Make September 27th a Quick Draw day!
