Robert Parker’s new exhibition in the Encore Gallery of the Taos Community Auditorium is titled “Art Into Architecture” and contains three segments that express the title of the show. The first segment is titled “Sunlipses,” which consists of eight digital prints on acrylic and “Undulations”, a series of stainless steel wall sculptures from which the “Sunlipses” were derived. “Sunlipses” are an expression of a collective consciousness and memory that we all share on occasion when we glimpse into our ‘interior universes.’ We have the possibility of savoring these seminal moments of time – times when we are transported from the ordinary to the exceptional.

The second segment is titled “Homage to Donald Judd,” and consists of 14 digital prints. Donald Judd (1928-1994) was a sculptor and art writer who was best known as a major practitioner of and spokesman for ‘Minimalism’ in the 1960s. In an old Army base in Marfa, Texas, Judd transformed a pair of immense artillery sheds into modern art cathedrals into which 100 of his mill aluminum boxes were installed.

The third segment is titled “World Peace Pavilion,” and consists of seven digital prints with acrylic overlay drawings. The idea for a World Peace Pavilion came from the Metro Youth for Global Unity in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Over six years, the group sent letters to countries around the world and the Pavilion was created to display over 100 of the rocks and bricks collected from over 70 countries. A chunk of the Great Wall of China and some remains of the Berlin Wall are included.

Philosophically, the way in which I come to understand and achieve growth in my personal and professional life is through the observation of the natural environment and the challenge to live in harmony with the natural world. It provides an ability to develop personal values, express ourselves visually, and hopefully, allow us to tread lightly upon the landscape. Whether through painting, printmaking, sculpture or architecture, my own values are manifest in an abstract visual language. It is my way of stating spiritual and environmental concerns for our world. Robert Parker

Description In this age of digital photography, more and more photographers are seeking an alternative. This return to labor and craftsmanship resists the quick-fix of inkjet technology and values something much more satisfying and elusive. The best examples are, first and foremost, great photographs. Yet, these are photographs with a richer tale to tell - one that shows the mark of the maker, and the effects of light on a hand-coated surface. These are not just images, they are objects. If selected your work will hang in the Mpls Photo Center galleries along with photographers from throughout the world. About the Juror British-born Keith Taylor is a photographer and printmaker living in Minneapolis. His photographs have been widely exhibited across the US and the UK, he is a two-time recipient of the Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, and his photographs are held in many private and corporate collections. He writes for photographic publications, and also lectures and teaches on historical processes. Completely self-taught, he now specializes in platinum-palladium, polymer photogravure and 3-color gum dichromate printing, both for his own work and for clients in the US and the UK.

The second annual Fall Lecture Series kicks off its 10 week run with a talk by Dr. Fred Wendorf. Nancy Laupheimer will present a concert of works for solo flute and flute with recorded sound in the My Beautiful Life gallery of FaFa’s (311 Paseo del Pueblo Norte) on Friday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. Works by J.S. Bach, Rhonda Larson, Astor Piazzolla, Katherine Hoover, Claude Debussy, Eve Beglarian and Steve Reich will be featured. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Lemlem School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Elizabeth Burns, who volunteered there this past winter, will be at the concert to talk about the school and show photographs. Tcikets are $12 at the door.

Taos artist, Ginger Mongiello, will be exhibiting new paintings and photography at the Stables Art Center in Taos from September 14 through September 21, 2010. Her paintings are charged with bold gesture and color, while her recent photography reflects the dynamic movement and patterns of plants and flowers captured in water. As an added feature, the artist will be creating a temporary studio in the gallery, and will be demonstrating some of her painting techniques during the course of the show.Info:

New York NY August 20th 2010. NYC's MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival today announced the ten short films that are Finalists for the 12th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT that will take place on Monday, September 27 at 7 PM at the Taos Community Auditorium as well as over 200 cities across 6 continents during the 24th of September to the 3rd of October.

With screenings being held across North & South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa, the 12th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Festival is now officially the World's First Global Film Festival. These ten finalist’s films will not only entertain a global audience but will be judged by them as well. Audiences at each venue will be asked to vote for the one film that they think is best, with all votes being sent through to MANHATTAN SHORT HQ with the winner announced on Sunday October the 3rd in NYC.

"We started with one screen on the side of a truck on a downtown Manhattan Street twelve years ago. Seeing this festival now taking place in over two hundred cities across six continents in one week is astounding”, said Manhattan Short director Nicholas Mason. This year there are ten shorts from ten separate countries and they will unite an audience of over one hundred thousand people across six continents in one week. Short films not only entertain but give a wonderful insight into cultures, trends and the goings on inside the world.
